Practice Planning
Effective practices are organized, fast-paced, and focused on maximizing puck touches and player engagement. A common structure used by many coaches includes:
- Warm-Up: Skating or puck control (5–10 minutes)
- Stations: Skill-focused stations rotating every 7–10 minutes
- Game Situations: Small-area games or battle drills
- Wrap-Up: Team discussion or cool-down skate
Skill Development
Each age division focuses on different stages of player development. Use the following as a general guide when selecting drills, building practice plans, and setting team goals.
- U7: Fun, confidence, balance, and basic puck movement
- U9: Skating, agility, passing/shooting, and introduction to team play
- U11: Game awareness, position-specific concepts, and body contact introduction
- U13: Tactics, systems, communication, and team structure
